Private Insurance
Private insurance plans, such as Blue Cross and Sunlife, often cover services not covered by BC MSP, similar to supplement plans or Student Care.
As a UBC student, you are automatically enrolled in the AMS/GSS Health & Dental Plan. If you are already covered under a private insurer through yourself or a parent/guardian, you may choose to opt out of Student Care.
How to opt out
Apply to opt-out online. Make sure to have your student ID number and your date of birth on hand.
Upload proof of your existing coverage. Acceptable proofs vary and are specified on the Student Care website.
Opt-outs are valid for one calendar year. If you wish to opt-out again for the following year, you must renew the opt-out application. You do not need to re-submit proof of coverage.
